With great enthusiasm, Peruvians residing in Thailand and the Philippines, registered in the corresponding electoral rolls and participated in the "Extraordinary Congressional Elections 2020", held on Sunday 26th January 2020.
On the election’s day the participants showed up at the respective voting venues, despite residing more than 18,000 kilometers away from Peru, they maintain their interest in strengthening democracy in Peru and in the future of their country.
It should be noted that the voting processes in Thailand and the Philippines were in charge of the Peruvian embassy in Bangkok and, in the case of the Philippines, they had the important support and coordination from the Honorary Consul General of Peru in Manila, Dr. Francis Chua.
The Ambassador of Peru, Mr. Fernando Quirós and his wife offered a lunch at the Peruvian residence in honor of the New Ambassador of Thailand in Peru, H.E. Mr. Sorayut Chasombat, who was accompanied by his wife and Mr. Witchu Vejjaviva, General Director of the Department of the American and the South Pacific Affairs from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand; Mr. Pirawat Atsavapranee, Deputy Director General of the referred department; Mr. Boonyarit Vichienpuntu, Director of the Latin America Division and other officials of that division, as well as Mr. Wuthikiat Chaicharna, representative of the Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA).
The guests were able to talk about important bilateral issues and propose actions that they could take in a coordinated way to strengthen bilateral ties in 2020. They tasted emblematic dishes of Peru, such as Ceviche, Lomo Saltado, Pisco and Peruvian wines.

Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri
Sirindhorn of Thailand presided the opening of the Annual Photography
Exhibition "Photos Wonderland 2019”, at the Bangkok Art and Culture Center
(BACC), which exhibits around 400 photos taken by herself during her travels in Thailand and abroad,
between 2018 and 2019.
The journey that stands out most in this
exhibition is the one the Princess made to Peru in April 2019, when she visited Lima,
Cusco and Puno. The exhibition displays preferentially the photographs taken in
that trip by Princess Sirindhorn, especially in Machu Picchu, which is
reproduced in this exhibition as a gigantography.
As an annual tradition, on the same
occasion Princess Sirindhorn presented a book of her photos "Photo
Wonderland", whose cover shows her posing with a llama in Cusco and Machu
Picchu in the background. This publication is part of the charitable activities
of Princess Sirindhorn and is made on a non-profit basis.
Admission
to this exhibition is free of charge. It
will remain open to the public until February 16, 2020 at the BACC.

On December 6, 2019, the
Ambassador of Peru in Thailand paid a courtesy visit to the Director-General of
Thailand´s International Cooperation Agency (TICA), Miss Pattarat Hongtong, to
greet her and discuss the bilateral agenda in the field of international
cooperation today.
The Ambassador of Peru passed on the best
disposition of the Peruvian Agency for International Cooperation (APCI) and its
Executive Director to strengthen the programs between both countries for the
period 2020-2022
The Director-General of TICA emphasized the
"philosophy of the economy of sufficiency" proposal some years ago by
King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX), which promotes sustainable and balanced
development in the economic, social, and environmental fields.
Among the cooperation projects successfully
executed between Peru and Thailand stood out those in the fields of agriculture,
sustainable community tourism, MSMEs, health, and fisheries.
The “Peru-Thailand Technical Cooperation Program
2020-2022” will be considered by the respective cooperation agencies of both
countries at the 4th Meeting of the APCI-TICA Working Group scheduled to be
held next year.
Both officials emphasized the importance of
south-south cooperation between middle-income economies to improve levels of
competitiveness, diversify markets, successfully insert themselves into the
processes of the 4th Industrial Revolution, timely and effectively assist
populations that aspire to access to the benefits of economic growth and
development, among other major challenges.
The
Ambassador of Peru and the Director-General of TICA also noted the importance
of the modality of trilateral cooperation that includes developed countries or
specialized international organizations.

On December 3, 2019, the
Ambassador of Peru in Thailand paid a courtesy visit to the Vice Minister of
Foreign Affairs of Thailand, Mr. Vijavat Isarabhakdi, who assumed his current
duties last August.
During the meeting, both pointed out the high level reached by the bilateral relationship through the different topics encompassed
by its agenda and the high-level visits and exchanges that took place in
2019, such as the royal private visit to
Peru by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn in April, and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of
Peru, Ambassador Jaime Pomareda's visit to Bangkok to sign the Instrument of
Accession of Peru to the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation in Southeast Asia
(TAC), in July.
Among other important issues, they
highlighted that the 55th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic
Relations between Thailand and Peru will be commemorated in 2020, an occasion
that will be conducive to the organization of joint activities -in Bangkok and
Lima- to continue promoting this relationship.
Finally
both underlined the importance of further strengthening economic and commercial
relations, as well as cultural and people-to-people contacts. With that in
mind, the Peruvian Ambassador acknowledged the access of Peruvian Hass Avocado
to the Thai Market, authorized in June 2019.
