Dear Compatriots:
On behalf of the Peruvian State, I would like to extend to each of our compatriots and their families a warm and fraternal greeting on the commemorating occasion of October 18, the "Day of Peruvians residing abroad"
At the same time, I want to pass on our
deep recognition of their sacrifice and effort, which allows them to make their
way successfully in other latitudes, always taking very high the name of our
beloved Peru.
This commemoration also serves to reaffirm
the full commitment of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to continue assisting
Peruvian communities around the world, providing quality consular services and
protection, with commitment and determined vocation of service, aware of the
important role played by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as a means to connect
them with Peru.
In that context, in order to protect the
rights of our migrants abroad, on December 2018, our country signed the Global
Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration, which has generated principles
and understanding on international migration in all its dimensions.
On the other hand, to protect the interests
of our citizens and facilitate their insertion in the host countries, the
Foreign Ministry, with the support of its missions abroad, continues to promote
the signing of cooperation agreements in different areas of relevance for the well-being
of our compatriots residing abroad, such as social security, recognition of
studies, driver's licenses, among others. In that regard, we have been working
on the extension of the tax benefits granted by the current law for Peruvian migrants
who return to our country.
Once again, on the “Day of Peruvians
residing abroad” in 2019, the Peruvian State, through the Ministry of Foreign
Affairs, will acknowledge those compatriots who have made an outstanding work
in favor of our fellow nationals abroad, promoting activities aimed at
strengthening Peruvian communities or strengthening their cultural links with
our rich Peruvian culture. The
corresponding certified diplomas will be handed over to those awarded nationals
through the respective Peruvian consular representation. In that respect, the
Foreign Ministry congratulates all Peruvians who have become role models to follow
and a motive of pride for the rest of their fellow citizens with the work and
solidarity they shown abroad.
I would like to conclude by expressing my
vows for the well-being of all of you and your families, reiterating my
gratitude to you because -despite the distance- you maintain an unwavering and
deep love for Peru.

The “Indigenous Languages Film Festival” was held in Bangkok, Thailand on 27 September with great success at the “Cinema Oasis”.
This event, framed in the “Year of Indigenous Languages Film Fest 2019”, was organized by the Embassies of Peru, Colombia, and Mexico with the support of the Regional Office of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) based in Bangkok.
The Embassy of Peru presented the Quechua language
film "The Eyes of the Journey" by the Peruvian director Rodrigo Otero
Heraud.
The heads of diplomatic mission of the three countries
and a high representative of UNESCO participated in the opening ceremony. The
Ambassador of Peru highlighted the extensive program of activities that have
been developed in Peru in the framework of the “Year of Indigenous Languages”,
including a Latin American Seminar being held in the city of Cusco on the same
date as the festival in Bangkok, in order to raise awareness about the threats
that indigenous languages face, and the need to preserve, revitalize, and promote
them throughout the world. He also highlighted the growing number of films in
indigenous languages that have been produced in Peru, including Wiñaypacha
(Aymara) and Retablo (Quechua).

Corps accredited in Thailand, specialists in the field who have been attending
the “Inclusion, Mobility and Multilingual Education Inclusion, Mobility and

On the morning of September 19, the
Ambassador of Peru in Thailand paid a visit out of courtesy to the President of
the National Assembly of Thailand and President (speaker) of the House of
Representatives, Mr. Chuan Leekpai, historical leader of the Democratic Party
and former Prime Minister of Thailand during two terms. Mr. Leekpai assumed his current duties
on May 28, 2019, after the March democratic elections in Thailand.
The President of the Thai legislative power expressed
his great appreciation for Peru and reflected over his memories of the visit he
made to Peru in 1999, whilst he was Prime Minister of Thailand. On that
occasion, among many other activities, he received an Honorary Doctorate degree
from the National University of San Marcos. Mr. Leekpai pointed out that,
despite the great geographical distance between Thailand and Peru, both countries
have many coincidences in their respective millenary pasts as well as in their
economic policies and development processes. In this framework, he stressed the
importance of continuing to strengthen bilateral cooperation and regional
dialogue between Southeast Asia and Latin America.
The Ambassador of Peru highlighted the status of
“strategic partners” that both countries have afforded to each other with the
intention of becoming gateways to Latin America and Southeast Asia,
respectively. He also pointed out to the growing bilateral trade,
including in Super Foods from Peru, which are much appreciated in
Thailand. He mentioned the co-operation ties in areas such as alternative
development, community-based tourism, start-ups, among others. He also
highlighted the collaborative work that ASEAN and the Pacific Alliance have
been doing for some years.
In this context, both high representatives highlighted
the important contribution of the Thailand – Peru Parliamentary Friendship
League to reinforcing bilateral links. Mr. Leekpai reported that the Thai
members of that League had integrated recently.
