On Friday, September 6, 2019, the Ambassadors of the
Latin American countries accredited in Thailand (Argentina, Chile, Colombia,
Cuba, Mexico, Panama and Peru) presented awards to the best students graduated
in Spanish major from Chulalongkorn University, during the 2018/2019 academic
year.
The Ambassador of Peru delivered two publications to
the student who obtained the highest score in the four years of studies to
obtain the Bachelor of Arts, with the specialty of Spanish Language. The gifted
books were "The Salt of the Hills, residence and utopia in the Peruvian
Amazon" of the Peruvian anthropologist Stefano Varese, and "Poetic
Anthology of César Vallejo", publication of the Embassy of Peru in
Thailand that brings together the best poems of the writer from Trujillo, Peru,
in Thai and Spanish languages.

On Wednesday, September 4, the Ambassador of Peru in
Thailand paid a courtesy visit to the new Minister of Culture of Thailand, Mr.
Itthiphol Kunplome, when they discussed the bilateral agenda and cooperation
between the two countries in the fields of culture and arts.
Among other matters, the Minister and the Ambassador,
accompanied by their respective teams, discussed cooperation in museology,
indigenous languages, protection of cultural property, participation in book
fairs, music, film and dance festivals, photographic exhibitions, painting,
among others.
Both recalled that, in 2020, Thailand and Peru will
celebrate 55 years of diplomatic relations and that this will be an auspicious
occasion for major cultural events in both countries. They also highlighted the
mandate to carry out activities that promote the “person-to-person” contacts
agreed in the Joint Work Plan between the ten ASEAN countries and the four of
the Pacific Alliance.

The Embassy of Peru in Thailand participated in the launching of the mobile application “Discover Latin America”, an initiative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand. This application, in Thai language, aims to disseminate knowledge and to promote the Latin American region.
The launching ceremony, held at the
shopping mall “Siam Center” in Bangkok, was attended by representatives of all
the Latin American embassies accredited in Thailand (Argentina, Brazil,
Colombia, Chile, Cuba, Mexico, Panama and Peru), officers from the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs and a large number of Thai citizens interested in Latin
America. The event also featured the participation of travel bloggers, singers,
TV presenters, among other Thai celebrities.
The main address was given by the
Deputy Director-General of Department of America and South Pacific Affairs, Mr.
Pirawat Atsavapranee. As a part of the event, the embassies had a space
for the promotion of their countries with informative material in the fields of
tourism, commercial and investment. In addition, there were performers
dressed in typical costumes.
The “Discover Latin America”
application contains basic information on all the countries of that region,
tourist attractions, national holidays, as well as economic and commercial
statistics of interest to the Thai public.

On 30th August, the second container with
ten tons of Peruvian Hass avocado shipped by sea arrived via the Port of Laem
Chabang, Chonburi. In Bangkok, the Ambassador of Peru with the CEO of Citi
Fresh Fruit Co. Ltd. received this important cargo consisting of 1,600 boxes of
fresh avocados, in this case, from the Virú Valley, La Libertad, in Northern
Peru. Citi Fresh Fruit Co. Ltd., is one of the two largest fruit importers in
Thailand.
The first season of export of Peruvian Hass avocado to
the Thai market and has been revealed as a great sales success due to the wide
acceptance of this fruit by large importers, supermarkets and Thai consumers.
About 60 tons of this selected fruit, duly certified
and packed, from the valleys of Ica, Lima and La Libertad, were already to
Thailand from the end of June until August 2019. The first shipments of up to
3,226 kg. each, arrived in Bangkok by air, immediately after the Ministry of
Agriculture of Thailand approved the phytosanitary protocol to import this
Peruvian fruit and successfully completed the audit of the premises of the Peruvian
packers and exporters. This process took almost eight years of negotiations and
persistent coordinated work between the Embassy of Peru in Thailand, the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the production companies and the SENASA.
Mr. Sithisak Chatamornwong, CEO of Citi Fresh, said
that the Peruvian Hass avocado imported this season was quickly placed, through
distribution channels aimed at consumers who consume high quality healthy
products in Thailand. He also indicated that when Thailand approved the phytosanitary
permit for the Peruvian Hass avocado, the harvest season in Peru had already
begun and the exporters had their product committed to other markets but, in
view of the quality, freshness, good shelf live and acceptance of the Peruvian
fruit, he will seek to ensure a greater supply of this product in the 2020
season.

In the framework of the tour that the Peruvian music
and dance group “Apu Inka” undertook in Asia, three presentations took place in
Bangkok. The first one, on Tuesday 6 August, in the prestigious Roof Top
Bar-Restaurant “Above Eleven” where Peruvian food and Pisco are served. The
audience could enjoy a varied repertoire of traditional songs of the Peruvian
folklore, in an environment dedicated to Peru.
The second presentation took place on Wednesday 7 at
the Alliance Française Bangkok, celebrating the 198th Anniversary of the
Independence of Peru.
Finally, on Thursday 8, the Peruvian musicians and
dancers performed at the recently opened “Icon Siam” shopping center, on the
banks of the Chao Phraya River, bringing together a select local and foreign
public. On this occasion, attendees were delighted with the music performed by
the group, which was complemented by the dances executed by two dance experts.
