The 52nd edition of the Diplomatic Red
Cross Bazaar took place on March 2 and 3, in the "Siam Paragon Mall" of
Bangkok, with the participation of 57 embassies accredited in Thailand, to
collect funds for the benefit of the humanitarian activities held by the Red
Cross Society in this country.
Under the motto “Giving Colors Our
Lives”, diplomatic missions in Thailand showed the best of their crafts and
products in 176 stands, in order to acquaint the local public with these
products and to raise funds for social and community assistance programs run by
the Red Cross Society in Thailand. The Bazaar was attended by more
than 50 thousand people.
This event is sponsored every year by
Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, sister of the King of
Thailand. After opening the Bazaar, Her Royal Highness visited the
participating stands, stopping before many of them to learn more about the
products of each country.
In the case of Peru, the Princess
stayed noticeably for longer at the two Peruvian stands, one with handicrafts,
and another with pisco, the national drink, and superfoods (quinoa, chia, maca,
and coffee), which are currently available for sale in this country. Her Roya
Highness was received by the Ambassador of Peru, his wife, and embassy
officials. They held a brief dialogue about Peru, its culture, tourist
attractions and the goods that it offers to the world nowadays.
Later, together with other heads of
diplomatic missions, the Ambassador of Peru presented the Princess a basket full
of Peruvian products (quinoa, coffee, chia, wine, and handicrafts), as well as
a bilingual book about the History of Peru, which Her Royal Highness
appreciated especially, expressing her vivid interest in visiting Peru.
